PHYSICAL EDUCATION:
At Brunswick House we take pride in delivering a wide range of activities and encourage
children to stay active sport participants throughout their education. We believe that
physical education helps to activate the brain and gives individuals energy and enthusiasm
in all curriculum areas.
The National Curriculum describes the areas of Athletics, Dance, Games, Gymnastics,
Swimming and Outdoor Education. We aim to provide opportunities for the children to
take part in all of these activities.
Physical Education lessons demonstrate the importance of exercise, health and safety.
The children can develop ideas creatively and imaginatively. We believe that children
should take an active part in planning, performing and evaluating lessons. We aim to
develop the physical skills, agility, co-ordination, self-expression and co-operation.
The school has good facilities for physical education.
The hall is used as a gymnasium and there is fixed as
well as portable apparatus. Children also participate in
small game activities, dance and aerobics sessions.
To provide greater opportunities we are frequently able
to use local secondary schools. Years 4 & 5 have
weekly swimming lesson at Maidstone Leisure Centre.
They are transported by coach and parents are asked
to make a voluntary contribution to cover the cost.
Children must change their clothing for PE lessons. Details
are in the uniform section. Children who are fit enough to
attend school are expected to participate in PE lessons unless
parents write a note requesting otherwise.
Year 6 children have the opportunity of going on a residential
Adventure week which gives them the opportunity to try a wide
range of outdoor activities.
There are many lunchtime and after school sports activities
throughout the year, including netball, football, rugby, rounders
and athletics. We encourage the children to try hard and to
develop a good positive sporting attitude. Taking part and
doing your best is what really matters.
There are separate Sports Days for the Infants and
Juniors towards the end of the summer term. These
are enjoyable events which help to encourage healthy
competition and co-operation.
