STAFFING AND ORGANISATION:
The teaching staff consists of a Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Special Needs
Co-ordinator, Key Stage Co-ordinators and Teachers, all of whom are responsible for
specific areas of the curriculum or school organisation.
There are several Teaching Assistants who work throughout the school under the direction
of the teachers. This enables us to provide better adult:child ratios and to provide one to
one support for children requiring specific help. In some classes suitably trained and
capable Teaching Assistants deliver lessons to the whole class. This is part of the
National Workforce Agreement. A full list of personnel employed at the school is available
in the office.
There are currently 420 children on roll.
We have: Two Foundation Stage
classes,
Six Infant classes, two for each year
group.
Eight Junior classes, two for each year
group. These classes are organised into
two teams for curriculum purposes:
Lower Key Stage Two (Years 3 & 4)
Upper Key Stage Two (Years 5 & 6)
For most lessons children will be taught
by their class teacher but team teaching
arrangements will also operate.
Children transfer to the Junior Department
in the September following their seventh
birthday.
All children transfer to Secondary Education
in the September following their eleventh
birthday. Secondary education is provided by wide ability, comprehensive and grammar
schools organised as single sex and co-educational schools.
At the beginning of Year 6 your child will be given a booklet detailing all the secondary
schools available in Mid-Kent. You will have the opportunity to attend open evenings at
these schools to help you to choose. We will also hold consultation meetings with you to
help you decide on the best type of school for your child. Children whose parents want
them to attend grammar schools must go through the selection process which involves
formal tests.
For most lessons children are taught by their class teacher, but the special interests and
expertise of individual teachers may be utilised in subjects such as Music, PE, Technology
and Science, ICT, French and Art.
