ADMISSIONS:
Infant children are admitted in the September before their 5
th
birthday. This provides all
children with 9 terms in the Infant Department: 3 terms in Reception, which is now called
The Foundation Stage, and 6 terms in the Infant classes, Year 1 and year 2.
When starting school in Foundation Stage, the children attend part-time for about two
weeks and this is to ensure that they adjust comfortably to school. Through consultation
between parents and teachers it is often possible to extend this part-time period. We have
a welcoming admissions and settling in policy which ensures that you and your children
feel happy and secure.
If you would like your child to attend Brunswick House ideally you need to contact the
school and ensure that your child’s name is on our book of prospective children. During
the Autumn Term open afternoons are held. Please ring the school to book one of these
to familiarise yourself with the school.
The Local Authority publishes a booklet detailing all schools in the county and we will let
you know when you can collect one from the school office. At this stage you need to
complete the CAF (Common Application Form) and return it to school, direct to the LA or
you can apply on-line. You will then be informed by the LA which school has allocated you
a place. Dates will be specified in the booklet. An online version of the booklet can be
found, along with the online application pages and lots of other guidance from the County
Admissions Team at this website:
It may be that more people are requesting places than there are places available. If this
happens then the County Admissions procedure will be followed and the places will be
allocated taking account of the criteria set out by the local authority. The Local Authority
determination scheme is updated each year and can be access from this webpage:

Parents who are unhappy with an admission decision can appeal by writing to the Area
Education Office.
If your child has already commenced Primary Education and you would like to transfer
him/her to Brunswick House you will need to contact the school to ascertain whether we
have a space in the particular year group required.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR DISABLED PUPILS:
The school has full wheelchair access. Parents of children with any disability are welcome
to approach us to discuss whether we would be able to meet specific needs. We welcome
all children and will always do our best to make school accessible.
STARTING SCHOOL:
Starting school can be an exciting adventure, but anxiety of some kind is quite natural for
parents and children. Before entering school, children have the opportunity to attend.
There are two formal class visits enabling the children to meet the Foundation Stage team
and the other children. There is also a meeting of the parents with the Headteacher and
Early Years staff so that our methods and procedures can be explained and any questions
answered.
