SCIENCE:
Science stimulates and excites pupils’ curiosity about phenomena and events in the real
world. At Brunswick House we believe that children should have the opportunity to
explore, investigate and discover.
Science lessons are planned to deliver the National Curriculum through topic-based study.
The National Curriculum looks at Science under four headings:
AT1 - Scientific investigation
AT2 - Life processes and living things
AT3 - Materials and their properties
AT4 - Physical processes
Scientific investigation is a continuous progression through each topic. Science is
essentially a practical subject, which involves the children in investigating, inquiring,
observing, speculating, trying out their ideas, interpreting their discoveries and evaluating
evidence. Recording skills are developed throughout the primary years. Children enjoy
investigating and developing their scientific knowledge. They have the opportunity to be
young investigators learning skills of discovery.
The children develop scientific skills by frequent outings and school based projects. The
children gain first hand experiences from our extensive field and pond area. Many
educational visits are planned and visitors often deliver aspects of the curriculum.
The school computer suite allows the children to gain vast information to enhance and
support study. They learn to question and discuss science-based issues that may affect
their own lives and make links to industry and the future.
