HOMEWORK:
When children first start school it is not our general policy to set regular homework. We do
however expect the children to take home their reading books and for them to read to you
and with you. The teachers will also advise you on further reading and activities suitable to
undertake at home. Following an intensive research and consultation period with parents,
the staff and Governors have developed a Home School Learning Policy. This enables
each child to have some control over the extent and depth of their own work at home.
Please help your child to complete any work that is sent home, sometimes just providing
them with encouragement and a quiet space is all the help that is needed.
The teachers will write to you in the Autumn term explaining the homework arrangements
for the year and informing you of topics to be studied.
It is also important to remember that children should be doing their best at school during
the day and that they are then entitled to a rest so that they are fresh for the next day.
SCHOOL POLICY ON CHARGING:
From time to time educational visits will be organised in connection with the work being
done in class. Theatre groups and musicians will also visit the school to perform to the
children. You will be asked for a specified contribution towards the costs, this is a
voluntary contribution, but these events will not take place if the cost cannot be met. The
Governors’ full policy on charging is available for inspection in the school office.
ABSENCES:
The Government has issued strict regulations on authorised and unauthorised absences
and we are obliged to follow these.
The school must be informed by email or telephone on the day of the reason for any
absence from school. If your child is ill or has a medical or dental appointment you must
inform us and we will record the reason for the absence.
If there is any other reason for an absence you need to write to the Headteacher and ask
permission for the absence stating your reasons as to why the absence is requested. This
may be for a musical or dance examination or it could be for special family or religious
reasons.
Holidays during term time are not encouraged and no permission will be given for holidays
during the test period in May. Parents who need to take their children on holiday during
term time should complete an application form which is available from the school
secretary. You must also write a letter or make an appointment to see the Headteacher in
order to explain why a holiday in term time is necessary. Applications should be made at
least two weeks before the proposed holiday and not more than ten days absence may be
granted in any calendar year.
If we are not informed of the reason for the absence the law requires us to record it as
unauthorised. Our school attendance record is, however, very good and we are grateful to
parents for their co-operation.
