ABLE CHILDREN:
We want all children to be motivated to achieve their best, and the teachers always aim to
provide tasks and activities for all ability levels. Able children are sometimes just expected
to do more than the others but there will often be an extra, or alternative, more demanding
task.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITES:
We have adopted the Kent County Council policy and as a school Brunswick House “is
committed to the general principle of equal opportunities for all pupils irrespective of
gender, race or disability and to the active support of initiatives designed to further this
principle. Both girls and boys are expected to participate in the full range of activities and
to be equally successful.
SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL ASPECTS OF LEARNING (SEAL):
The Social and Emotional aspects of learning are the underpinning skills that help us to
manage life and learning effectively.
These skills are self-awareness, managing feelings, motivation, empathy and social skills.
There are seven themes which are worked on throughout the year and then revisited each
year at a different level. Each theme starts with a whole school assembly and then follow
up activities are done in each class.
There are homework tasks to extend the schoolwork because we believe that it is
important for parents to be involved.
The SEAL project encompasses work previously called citizenship & PSHE, personal,
social & health education.
SEX EDUCATION:
Sex Education is presented in a moral framework within the context of family life, loving
relationships and respect for others. The programme of work is based on a television
series and parents are invited to view the materials and discuss the content with the
teachers.
There are separate age appropriate programmes for years 3/4 and 5/6. Parents have the
right to withdraw their child from aspects of Sex Education which are not part of the
National Curriculum. This can be done by notifying the Headteacher in writing.
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS:
We encourage positive attitudes towards the management of our environment. Our
grounds are a rich source for exploration with established hedgerows, a variety of mature
trees and a nature pond. The concept of re-cycling is constantly reinforced and the older
children enjoy their outdoor lessons which include a range of gardening activities.
