CHILD PROTECTION:
We encourage children to feel confident to talk to staff about incidents which have upset
them. Our child protection policy sets out what we do if they tell us about anything serious
which has happened to them at school or elsewhere. It also sets out our duties and the
procedure to follow in situations of suspected child abuse or neglect. Policy available to
read on request.
SICKNESS OR ACCIDENT IN SCHOOL:
Medical facilities at school are very limited. Slight injuries are dealt with by a member of
staff. We aim to ensure that all staff have at least a basic first aid qualification. The school
secretary and some classroom assistants have more advanced first aid qualifications. In
all cases where complications are possible, and this applies in particular to all head
injuries, parents are contacted. If parents cannot be reached, the child will be taken by us
to hospital for treatment if necessary.
Parents will also be contacted if a child becomes unwell at school. Please let us have an
additional telephone number or address in case we need to contact you in an emergency.
Should it be necessary for your child to take medicines or tablets whilst at school it is
important that these are given in a clearly labelled container to the school secretary, and
an indemnity form must be completed by the parent. This also applies to asthma
medication. All inhalers are kept in the school office to ensure they are available and
clean and where all staff have instant access in the case of need. We also monitor the
children’s use of medication and keep parents informed.
COMPLAINTS POLICY:
It is our experience that problems can usually be solved through discussion and we are
always available to meet with you. If at any time you are dissatisfied the Governors have
adopted the County complaints policy. This is the procedure you should follow:-
1. If you are concerned about any aspect of your child’s progress or if your child
seems to be unhappy please discuss the situation with your child’s teacher in
the first instance. Most problems can be resolved quickly in this way as a matter
of routine.
2. If you are still concerned then please contact either the Headteacher of the
Deputy Headteacher. We will do our best to help.
3. In the unlikely event of you still not being satisfied you should write to the Clerk
of the Governors, c/o the School. The Clerk will notify the Governors who will
determine what will happen next.
Alternatively, you could write to the Chairman of the Governors, c/o the School,
who will also follow the above procedure.
The Governors will respond to any concerns within ten days.
4. If after the Governors have considered and responded to your problem you are
still concerned you will need to contact the Local Authority.
