GOOD BEHAVIOUR POLICY
The children are expected to behave in an orderly and polite manner at all times and to
give of their best in all they do. The School expects the support of parents in ensuring that
high standards of behaviour are maintained, and we will contact you if there are problems.
We would also like you to contact us if you find the need.
The school operates an Assertive Discipline Policy to guide the children’s behaviour. This
policy asserts the teachers’ right to teach and the children’s right to learn. The children are
encouraged to develop the ability to make decisions about their own conduct and to show
consideration for others and respect for the environment in which they live.
Each class has its own specific rules which the children must follow. These are displayed
in the classrooms and the expected behaviour is: working quietly without interfering with
others, putting your hand up when you want to speak etc. If there is persistent bad
behaviour the Class Teacher or Headteacher will write to you. It is important that we work
together and insist on good behaviour.
There are sanctions for non-compliance such as missing golden time, sitting alone,
missing a playtime or working in another classroom.
Our discipline policy ensures consistent firm but fair handling of the children by all
members of staff. Its aim is to encourage the children to recognise that there are choices
to be made about work and behaviour and for them to choose to behave well. We
emphasise “catching them being good” and we reward good work and good behaviour.
Making positive choices about behaviour leads to success and a sense of belonging.
A copy of the full discipline policy is available in the school office.
BULLYING POLICY:
Bullying either physical or mental is not tolerated. The children are expected to treat each
other kindly and courteously and we talk openly about bullying in assemblies and class
discussion times. We believe that bullies are usually cowards and the best defence
against them is to tell someone you can trust immediately.
If you are worried that your child is being bullied please contact the class teacher or the
headteacher as soon as possible. We will always take your concerns seriously and deal
with the situation sympathetically and firmly. We are a “Telling School” – bullying is too
serious not to report. A copy of the full anti-bullying policy is available from the school
office.
EXCLUSIONS POLICY:
The Governing Body has adopted the County exclusions policy and a copy of this is
available in the school office. Our aim is to work with parents to help all children to
succeed in school. Exceptional bad behaviour may result in us asking you to keep your
child home for a specified period of time. If there is not an improvement in behaviour after
several short term exclusions it may become necessary for you to find an alternative
school for your child.
Exclusion from school will be used only very rarely and parents will be notified in writing at
the earliest possible moment of the reason for the exclusion.
