AIMS OF THE SCHOOL
OUR PHILOSOPHY
1. To provide, through a broad balanced curriculum, an education that challenges each
child according to their age, ability and aptitude irrespective of gender, race or
disability.
2. To develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and understanding necessary to enjoy a
successful life.
3. To recognise individual needs and to develop the full potential of each child.
4. To develop lively enquiring minds and a positive attitude towards learning within a
happy, caring and thriving community.
5. To achieve standards of excellence in work and behaviour.
6. To encourage confidence and a sense of self-worth so that our children are proud of
their own, and others, achievements.
7. To develop a sense of belonging to our school and the wider community.
8. To help our children develop spiritual and moral values, fostering respect for and
understanding of the religions, beliefs and customs of others.
THE GOVERNING BODY
Governors are like a board of directors and they make decisions about how the school is
run. School Governors have legal duties, powers and responsibilities. They can only act
together, they cannot act individually.
You can approach any of the governors if you have questions or concerns about the
school.
Governors are appointed to help:
- Decide what is taught
- Monitor the quality of teaching and learning
- Set standards of behaviour
- Interview and select staff
- Decide how the school budget is spent
The Headteacher is responsible for the day to day management of the school and the
internal organisation and discipline. The Headteacher reports to the Governors at their
termly meetings.
The full Governing Body meets at least once, but usually twice, a term. In addition there
are several sub-committees with delegated responsibilities which also meet regularly.
Our Governors work closely with the Headteacher and teaching staff and often help in
school in practical ways. The Governors produce the school profile which is available
online at
Copies of minutes of the Governors’
meetings are available in the school office for anyone to read.
A full list of Governors and their terms of office is available in school.
If you are interested in becoming a governor please ask the Headteacher for details.
