Geography GCSE

The Geography GCSE follows the AQA syllabus.
Geography GCSE will develop your understanding
of the processes that shape our world. Through
studying physical and human geography, you will
develop a clear view of the changing shape of the
landscape and how people interact with their
environment.
The key themes studied are: The Restless Earth,
The Challenge of Weather and Climate, Water on
the Land, Ice on the Land, The Coastal Zone,
Population Change, Changing Urban Environments,
The Development Gap and Tourism.
The course is assessed through Controlled
Assessment (25%) and two external examinations,
one Physical Geography Examination (37.5%) and
one Human Geography Examination (37.5%).
There are many career opportunities open to
students studying Geography such as surveying,
teaching, law, architecture, outdoor pursuits,
environmental science, and the skills developed in
Geography are highly regarded by employers.
History GCSE
Head of Department: Miss G. Palmer
This course encourages you to show your understanding of events
in the past; being able to explain their causes, their impact and
their importance. You will also develop enquiry and source analysis
skills, questioning the accuracy of the sources historians use.
The course is divided into six topics;
The International Relations, The causes leading up to World War II
1919-1945; The Cold War 1945-1955; the USSR 1928-1945 and the
USA 1919-1968.
The course is assessed through Controlled Assessment (25%) and
two external examinations, covering International Relations
(37.5%) and USSR and USA (37.5%).
The Humanities Department consists of History,
Geography and Religious Studies. The three
subjects help you to develop an understanding
of the world in which you live today and to be
able to express opinions and question the world
around us. Lessons are vibrant and interactive
and focus on challenging everyone in their
thinking of the world.
