English Language GCSE
The English Language GCSE enables students to explore English in a variety of contexts,
notably in our study of language in the media. We will examine famous speeches
throughout history; media texts including websites, newspapers and magazines, looking
at how presentational features such as images and headings are used to engage the
reader. Students enjoy the creative writing element of the course and the many
opportunities to write interesting and imaginative texts. The skills of reading and writing
are of vital importance in all areas of life and we aim to provide you with an engaging
experience of all of these aspects. Employers and places of Higher Education require a
minimum C grade in English Language; this qualification forms a double weighted element
of the Government’s new ‘Progress 8’ measure for schools.
