CREATIVE ARTS
Drama (GCSE)
Head of Department: Miss J. Bowden
Drama is the most universal tool of storytelling and
communication. In every culture and society, dramatic
expression has been prevalent. The GCSE Drama course
will enable you to gain a clear understanding of a range of
dramatic and theatrical styles. You will be expected to
rehearse regularly, participate in workshops and attend
professional theatre visits.
In Year 10 you will focus on various dramatic concerns
including points of view and perspective. You will apply a
range of dramatic skills, styles and techniques to create
your own imaginative and creative theatre.
A controlled assessment in Year 10 makes up 30% of your
final GCSE grade and involves both practical performance
and a 2000 word assignment.
In Year 11 there will be further practical assessments and
written pieces of work. The final practical performance
represents 40% of your final grade and is assessed at the
end of the second term.
Drama offers you the opportunity to develop both self and
group awareness, problem solving and social skills that are
transferable to many chosen career paths.
“Drama is an extremely enjoyable subject with a really hard working and dedicated
department. The teachers are inspirational and they really do care. You will work
hard in Drama and you will gain so much. I am now taking A-level Drama and hope
to pursue a career in the creative sector.”
