Food Technology – GCSE
Head of Department: Mrs. J. Glister
GCSE Food Technology develops a working knowledge of a wide range of ingredients
and equipment, use of standard components appropriate to prototyping and
manufacturing of high quality food products. You will be given opportunities to gain
knowledge and understanding of functions and working characteristics of ingredients
when designing and making food products. Much of your time is spent in the food
room where you will be using food and ingredients to cook, analyse, design and
develop new food products to a set context and design brief. 60% of the marks are for
coursework with a two-hour exam accounting for the remaining 40%. You may wish to
progress to A-level Food Technology in the Sixth Form.
Graphics – GCSE
Head of Department: Miss R. Lewis
GCSE Graphic Products enables students to design and make products with creativity and originality,
using a range of graphic and modelling materials. Students are enthused and challenged by the range of
practical activities: including Fairtrade, Pop Ups, Packaging and Promotion. They will design and make
products using graphic media and new technologies to prepare them for the world of work, college and
university.
Key Facts:
60% course work and 40% Exam, Exam Board is AQA, Required to stay after school one night
per week. All projects consist of a portfolio of work and a practical element.
A GCSE in Graphics could help you go on to Further Education courses such as Graphics or Product
Design A-level. It will develop transferable skills, which will help you in many future career within a
design or creative industry.
