Dance GCSE
Subject Contact: Miss S. Hicklin
The GCSE Dance course will enable you to develop knowledge and
understanding of Contemporary Dance. You will learn Contemporary Dance
techniques, performance skills, choreography skills and analytical skills in
relation to both professional dance works and your own. The course is
heavily weighted on your physical dance ability with 80% graded through
practical performance. 20% of the course is externally assessed through a
written exam displaying your skills to critically analyse Dance. There will be
the requirement to perform alone and in groups so therefore out of lesson
rehearsals are imperative to the course. You will be continuously assessed
throughout the course by teachers and externally assessed on moderation
day at the end of the course. You will be expected to participate in dance
classes inside and out of school, perform in the Annual Dance Shows and
attend performances as part of the course.
Participation in Dance at Blenheim is huge
and the talent of the students we have here
is exceptional. Blenheim PE department is
lucky to have an excellent facility to cater
for the course. The studio has a sprung floor
and a fully mirrored wall to ensure students
excel in their chosen option.
“As well as loving to dance, I also took the course as a
creative option to balance out my classroom based subjects.
You must have a passion for dance and experience
performing inside and outside of school to equip you with
choreography ideas, technique and performance skills.”
Megan Siarey, Yr11
“Dance has developed my
confidence, leadership and
communication skills to prepare me
in my future. The course is intense,
complex and challenging, it allows
me to think outside of the box and be
creative!”
Lottie Fitzgerald, Yr11
“You should be doing
dance outside of lessons
at least twice a week.
GCSE Dance doesn’t teach
you how to dance; it
improves your skills.”
Leanne Pritchett, Yr10
