CREATIVE ARTS
Music (GCSE)
Head of Department: Miss E. Gostling
Over the duration of the Music GCSE course you will study pieces of music
that cover a wide range of musical styles. You will focus on developing your
performing, composing and listening skills. You should be involved in extra-
curricular music groups as well as concerts and music events; instrumental
or vocal lessons are recommended if you opt for this course.
Performing equates to 30% of your final grade. You can choose to study on
any instrument of your choice, including voice or submit performances on
more than one instrument. You will work on group performances as well as
solo performances.
You will do a combination of group and individual compositions through the
use of music technology on the iMacs in our recording studio. This equates
to a further 30% of your final grade. Your final compositions are completed
under controlled conditions.
The final 40% of the course is an exam which involves you listening to
excerpts from the pieces of music that you have studied throughout the
course.
This course would be useful if you wish to enter the performing arts or
music industry, and is essential if you wish to continue the study of music at
Sixth Form or University.
Creative Arts are exciting choices. Although all subjects will require a
lot of hard work, students who have a love for the Arts will excel. We
offer Music, Art and Design and Drama delivered in specialist facilities.
Our aim is to give students a balanced and inspiring education and we
will strive for excellence at all times.
