Science – Triple
Award GCSE
If you are considering the possibility of
any Science based career, you may use
one of your GCSE options to complete
Triple Science GCSE. This course builds
on the work covered in Core and
Additional Science and will equip you
with a broader and deeper set of skills
and understanding – ideal preparation
for 6th form Science courses.
As with other Science GCSEs, the course
is assessed with three exam papers taken
at the end of Year 11 (each worth 25% of
the final mark) and a controlled
coursework assessment, also worth 25%
of the final mark.
Child Development
GCSE
Subject contact: Mrs. F Charles
Most of you will be parents in the future and/
or will come into contact with young children
either during family life or at work. This
course provides a good background to enable
you to understand children from the ages of 0
to 5. You will need to be able to study a child
over a period of 6 months to enable you to
complete the coursework element.
You will have the opportunity to develop your
knowledge and understanding of human
needs (physical, intellectual, emotional and
social). The skills and knowledge acquired
will, not only be relevant and transferable to
other
settings,
but
enhance
career
opportunities and provide a stimulating
course of study.
This course would also provide progression to
A-level Health and Social care, teaching,
childcare or midwifery.
Coursework - 60% (40% Child Study + 20%

“Child Development is the best option I chose.
