Preparing Children for a Successful Future
Recent changes made by the Department for Education, (DfE), will impact the way in which any requests for
leave of absence in term time will be dealt with. These changes come into effect from September 2013 and
apply nationally.
The changes mean that Headteachers will not be able to authorise any requests for leave of absence in term
time unless in exceptional circumstances.
In deciding whether to authorise a request for leave of absence, the Headteacher will consider:
1. Your child‟s current attendance record
2. The time of the school year
3. Individual reasons for the absence request
PLEASE REMEMBER:
•The School strongly recommends that you avoid important Test Dates i.e. May.
•Time off for holidays is not an automatic right. Schools have the discretion to grant up to 10 school days‟
absence within any school year in
exceptional circumstances
.
•7 days‟ notice must be given in order for your request to be processed by the school office prior to the
start of your absence.
