Marshfields School is able to offer a thriving sixth form that builds upon the foundations laid in key stage
three and key stage four. All curricular, enrichment and extra curricular opportunities are available to post
16 students, with the ultimate aim of preparing students for higher education, independent living and the
world of work.
All students continue to study both Maths and English, at either Entry Level 1,2,3 or GCSE. The programmes of study take a more
‘functional’ approach which help to prepare students for work and further study. Similarly, English is studied at Functional Entry Level 1,2,3
and Functional Level 1. Again the ‘functional’ approach is adopted to ensure students can apply their literacy skills to work situations.
All members of Marshfields sixth form study Personal Development,
which incorporates Citizenship, Religious Education and Careers. All
students also undertake a minimum of one day’s work experience.
This could be as part of a Marshfields group activity, which may
include gardening at FerminWoods in Northamptonshire, or an
independent work experience placement tailored to the students’
individual interests and skills.
Within the curriculum students have also the opportunity to choose a
variety of vocational courses. These options include Sport, Performing
Arts, FoodTechnology, Art and Independent Living.
We aim to make our students as independant as we can and
Marshfields students will have the opportunity to spend time in our
on-site bungalow, and will be given opportunities to develop their
social and life skills.
All Marshfields students including sixth form students receive daily additional literacy and numeracy support.
The aimof the Marshfields curriculum is to provide academic rigour and purpose through engaging
and differentiated teaching to ensure all students achieve, in the process becoming
rounded citizens.
