As PE and sport are an integral part of the school day, it
is important to offer a wide variety of activities in order
to try and appeal to girls of all ages. The hope is that girls
will experience a sporting activity which will stay with them
into adulthood.
With this in mind we offer the following activities either at
lunch time or after school during the course of the year.
Pilates
The aim of Pilates is to learn how to move correctly and
efficiently. Sitting at a desk pulls muscles and joints out of
alignment which, in class, are rebalanced and strengthened.
The focus is on building core strength which improves posture
and prevents injury; the class environment and structure also
helping to reduce stress. The habits formed in teenage years
are those that continue through to adulthood, and therefore,
practicing correct movement patterns at this age is highly
beneficial.
Pilates takes place in school on Mondays 4.15-5.15pm.
Kickboxing
The kickboxing classes allow the girls to be involved in martial
arts in a fun and safe environment. Besides developing boxing
skills, important self-confidence and super fitness, the upbeat
and interactive class encourages girls to work as a team and
feel empowered.
Physically – Their cardiovascular fitness and strength will
increase immensely, as well as coordination, reaction time and
balance.
Mentally – Focus, concentration and determination. The
classes are structured and provide a situation for working
together and respect for one another.
Emotional – Improvement in confidence, self-esteem.
Physiologically – Feel Good Factor – Endorphins are released
during the workout and results in mood elevation and a sense
of calm afterwards.
Kickboxing takes place in school on Mondays 4.15-5.15pm
for beginners and 5.15-6.15pm for advanced.
