PHYSICAL EDUCATION
PE is seen as a vital part of the girls’ overall education
at Godolphin and allows the girls time to rejuvenate
their minds, helping to promote a positive attitude
towards studying whilst working on both individual and
team skills. Girls learn to deal with both success and
failure, something which is ever present in their lives,
as well as taking risks whilst challenging themselves.
All these attributes will help them both on and off the
sports field.
With this in mind the department offers a wide variety
of sports and clubs both within the curricular and extra
curricular programmes. Our main sports are hockey and
netball in the winter along with tennis, rounders, cricket
and athletics in the summer.
SQUADS
We have squads in hockey, netball, gymnastics, basketball,
rounders, cricket, athletics and tennis. Girls try out at the
beginning of the season for a squad and places are earned
on practical performance as well as attitude to learning and a
girl’s commitment to practices and fixtures. Squads are never
fixed and girls are often asked to join during the course of
the year as their skills develop; equally girls may be asked to
leave if their commitment, attitude or performance drops.
We have an inclusive approach towards sport and girls who
do not make the squad can still attend clubs which run
alongside the squads’ lunch time practice.
Netball
Netball is an increasingly popular sport at Godolphin and
Latymer School. The majority of girls play it throughout the
years, it’s enjoyable but competitive and challenging.
With just seven players on each side, the game requires
good team working skills and the ability to think well under
pressure. Quick passing and footwork make it one of the
fastest moving games the girls enjoy and skills, such as hand-
eye coordination, spatial awareness and decision making.
Fully inclusive and, above all fun, netball is enjoyed by all ages
and abilities.Training is available before school and lunch times
and regular fixtures, tournaments are played after school.
