Extra Curricular Booklet 2014 - page 39

As with all sports, competition is encouraged and we field
the following teams in each age group;
• U12 ABCDEFGH Club
• U13 ABCDEF Club
• U14 ABCD
• U15 ABCD
• U16 ABC
• U18 1VII 2VII 3VII
This spurs each and every girl to work hard to improve her
performance and rewards them with a team place even if
they are not elite players. It also helps everyone understand
the value of determination and practice by clearly outlining a
pathway for progression.
Each year the school takes part in numerous local and regional
competitions, showing great flair, talent and sportsmanship. It
also underpins our commitment to providing enjoyable and
inclusive sport for all.
Hockey
Hockey is often a new sport to some girls but the
enthusiasm to try the unknown is overwhelming. The squad
is not selected as early as others in order to give those who
have never played before a chance to experience hockey
and develop their skills. When the squad is selected we have
A-D teams for the U12/13 squads and A/B for all other
year groups. By doing this we allow as many girls as possible
to play.
A joint netball and hockey sports tour runs each year,
alternating between the lower school and seniors. The
U13/14 squads have the opportunity to go to Northern
Ireland for five days with the senior tour being slightly further
afield to South Africa or Barbados.
Gymnastics
The gym squad is an invitational group for students from
all year groups. The group works towards external school
competitions and internal displays in floor and vault and
acrobatic disciplines. Gymnasts are encouraged to work
together to develop their skills and produce spectacular
performances at the end of the spring term.
