Partnership
______________________
Parents and Carers
As a staff, we value the support and partnership of our
children’s parents and carers and work hard to make the
school’s
open door policy
a reality. The Class 1 teacher
visits children at pre-school and nurseries before they
join the school and hosts a new parents’ information
evening. Thereafter, we regularly welcome children’s
families in to sharing assemblies, open classrooms,
performances, celebration evenings and Christmas carol
services. As a small school, we try hard to listen to
concerns and address problems effectively.
Helpers from the community
Each class also benefits from
volunteer helpers
from amongst our parents
and the wider village community, who come in to support school music
and productions, hear reading, supervise small groups, mount displays and
come out with us on school trips. The parish rector and curate and local
URC minister regularly take school assemblies.
Children
The children are regularly consulted about issues of school life, the curriculum and facilities through
our
Buddy Groups
system. Nine groups of a dozen or so children, of mixed ages, meet once a term
with a member of staff to scribe their ideas and opinions, which are then fed back to staff and
Governors as appropriate.
Buddy Groups include sibling groups of children and Year 6/Reception
reading partners, an arrangement which encourages older children to
mix with and support younger ones. These supportive friendships are
further encouraged by our
family service lunch
hall, where children
are seated in sibling groups with older children serving and helping
younger children. Conversation and table manners are promoted!
Reading partners
start with Year 5 children paired with the Rising
Fives at Preschool when they visit Class 1 during the Summer Term.
These partnerships continue through Year 6/Reception, often
developing into affectionate friendships.
