Our School and Village
______________________________
Learning together for life
Foxton Primary is a
small, friendly school
at the heart of its village
community. Our dedicated members of staff work hard to give every child
the best possible start to school life. We have a lovely rural site and modern
school buildings creating a happy, purposeful environment for learning.
With just over 100 children currently on roll, it is easy for everyone to know
each other really well and to learn mutual respect, trust and kindness.
We draw on strong links with local primary and secondary schools, long-standing relationships with
extra-curricular educators both near and far, as well as the rich creative and academic resources of
Cambridge city and university. From the security of this close-knit community, our children can go out
- physically, digitally, imaginatively - to explore the wider world.
Location
The city of Cambridge and its university have been the focus of rapid economic growth in recent years
as high-tech businesses build on the success of ‘Silicon Fen’ and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
Foxton is a thriving village
of some 1400 people, 7 miles to the south west of the city. The history of
village has been traced back at least 2000 years and Foxton today is a strong community that supports a
busy shop and post office, a pub, a church, a modern village hall, the newly-built skate park, a variety of
sports clubs and a good many local businesses, as well as our popular primary school.
The Learning Environment
Foxton School opened in 1883 and moved to our current beautiful site in 2002.
So we enjoy warm, light, easily-maintained buildings and extensive outdoor
space, overlooking open fields. We have four classes: Reception/younger Year 1,
older Year 1/Year 2, Years 3/4 and Years 5/6. We have three further teaching
rooms, a well-resourced library, enough laptops for whole class teaching, two
admin offices and the headteacher’s office. The school building is linked to the
new village hall and sports pavilion, so our big and airy school hall is used by the
village out of school hours.
Outside we have large playgrounds for younger and older children, including
extensive grass areas, a wooden trim trail and willow tunnel, an outdoor
classroom and playing field. There are raised garden beds used by the children
for growing vegetables and flowers.
We have close links with Foxton Pre-School, which is run in rooms in the village hall. We run a popular
Breakfast Club from 8am and some of our children are transported to an After-School Club at a nearby
cluster primary school. We have always had a fully-equipped kitchen so school lunches are freshly
cooked on site.
