Reading, Writing & Maths
Albert Einstein said: ‘Imagination
is more important than knowledge.’
Literacy at Bonneygrove combines
uses the infinite scope of a child’s
imagination and the combined wisdom
of all of their teachers’ knowledge in
order to develop a love of learning and
an understanding of life skills.
In reading we aspire to promote a love
and enthusiasm for books. We use a
variety of reading materials, from
schemes for early readers to books by
popular children’s authors. Children are
taught to decode words, in conjunction
with understanding what they are
reading. They then move onto exploring
texts of growing complexity as
they progress through the school. We
aim to create fluent readers, who read
for fun and education.
As a school we encourage original
writing and a passion for
knowledge; this is promoted with our
creative writing stimuli, such as
when children arrive at school to
be greeted by a mysterious looking
hole in the classroom, which must
then be investigated and written about.
Ideas like this allow children to be
inspired and the learning to be
interactive; having a purpose and
motivation for writing leaves them
with a contagious enthusiasm and
a wealth of ideas.
