Reading, Writing & Maths
Albert Einstein said: ‘Imagination
is more important than knowledge.’
Literacy at Bonneygrove combines the
best of both of these in order to develop
a love of learning and an understanding
of life skills.
In reading we aspire to promote a love
and enthusiasm for books. Children are
taught to decode words, in conjunction
with understanding what they are
reading. They then move onto exploring
texts of growing complexity as
they progress through the school. We
aim to create fluent readers, who read
for fun and education. As a school
we encourage original writing and a
passion for knowledge; this is promoted
with our creative writing stimuli, such
as when children arrive at school to
be greeted by a mysterious looking
hole in the classroom, which must
then be investigated and written about.
Ideas like this allow children to
develop a contagious enthusiasm and
a wealth of ideas.
Mathematics is taught with a focus
on problem solving and being able to
explore and appreciate numbers. We
use a range of hands on resources
to make learning interactive and
exciting. As a love for numbers flourish
children begin to look at famous
mathematicians, to give real world
context to their learning.
