Supporting the Individual
We recognise that everyone needs to be challenged throughout their school
life and we place great emphasis on monitoring individual academic progress
with regular and robust assessments.
In 2013/14, Ofsted praised our use of data to track each student’s progress and put in rapid
and effective interventions where necessary. A programme of extension and enrichment
opportunities ensures all students are challenged in new and imaginative ways. Our most
able students are given numerous opportunities to excel, including the opportunity to
study Latin and through membership of the nationally renowned Brilliant Club.
All lessons are matched to the needs of individuals to enable every student to achieve
their very best. Our Aspirations Programme complements the ‘Ambition’ value of
our we CARE ethos by providing high quality academic enrichment activities for all
students, including strong links with Oxbridge and the Russell Universities.
When a student is identified as having a particular learning need, our large and very
experienced Special Educational Needs team provides an extensive variety of support
and interventions to support the individual and allow them to have equal access to
the curriculum, enabling them to consistently make outstanding progress.
Deaf Resource Base
Hatch End High School is the London Borough of Harrow’s additionally resourced
secondary school for deaf students. The specialist unit provides an environment
where the needs of all deaf students are understood and valued, and successful
inclusion is promoted. The aim is to provide the opportunity for access to the widest
possible range of educational experience so that they achieve their potential, not only
educationally but also socially and emotionally.
We are regularly in the top 20% of all schools nationally for the progress our
students make – DfE PERFORMANCE TABLES
“Teachers have strong subject knowledge
and plan lessons well using a range of
strategies and resources whichmake learning
engaging for students.”
