LEVEL 3 RSL PERFORMING ARTS “To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful. This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking” Agnes De Mille Dance ignites creativity and builds resilience, it provides the freedom to explore who you are as a dancer and a person, developing qualities needed to be highly successful in all areas of life. Students studying dance at Sigma Sixth develop resilience, creativity, teamwork, confidence, critical thinking, self-discipline, leadership, physical health and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently, all beneficial skills and qualities required in any career path. Dance requires students to engage with an abundance of social, political and cultural themes, through the works of established practitioners and companies. Inspiration from the professional world supports students in creating inspiring and unique choreographies and performances. Students learn and develop teaching methods through teaching their own dance sessions igniting their confidence and ability to lead. The course is delivered using a range of assessment styles to suit all learners, and taught in an engaging way that makes students thrive and aspire to achieve their full potential. CURRICULUM STATEMENT Throughout the two years you will: • Rehearse effectively and perform to live audiences. • Choreograph in response to stimuli. • Understand contextual issues relating to dance style, history and practice. • Lead others in dance activities. • View live performance work and participate in professional masterclasses. COURSE CONTENT Students need to have achieved a minimum of 4 grades 4-9 incl. English and maths and a minimum of a Level 2 merit in dance or graded dance exams is desirable. ENTRY CRITERIA
