LEVEL 3 RSL MUSIC PRACTITIONERS “Where words fail, music speaks.” Hans Christian Andersen Students are actively encouraged to embrace their independencewithin themusic course and provide a personalised music learning journey with the help of professional musicians and experienced teachers. Music practitioners will be given the chance to work at an industry standard level, learning the professional etiquette required to succeed within their chosen field. Studying music at Sigma Sixth provides a foundation for a variety of transferable skills such as - teamwork, resilience, creativity, confidence, critical thinking, self-discipline, leadership, raised self- esteem and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently. CURRICULUM STATEMENT Throughout the two years students will: • Perform effectively on a chosen instrument/voice to a wide array of audiences. • Initiate and develop a personal repertoire. • Build a personal composition portfolio. • Rehearse effectively and performmusic live. • Understand contextual issues relating to music style, audience and the music industry. • Learn production techniques and how to effectively use music technology. Assessment: The course is made up of 90 credits in total, 30 credits are a core externally assessed unit and the remaining 60 credits are assessed internally and moderated by the exam board. COURSE CONTENT Students need to have achieved a minimum of 4 grades 4-9 incl. English and maths. Studentswillneedtobeabletoplayamusical instrumenttoaproficient level.Studying music at level 2 is not necessary if students can demonstrate enough knowledge and playing experience on their chosen instrument. Experience performing via instrument/voice to an audience is preferred but not required. Instrument grades are desirable. ENTRY CRITERIA
