Course Overview
Do you want to be behind the camera rather than in front of it? Do you have a desire to
learn how TV, radio and film are really made? The Film & Media Production department
will be the right place for you. From film and television writing, directing and producing,
to radio broadcasting and photography, you will cover it all here. What’s more, you will
be learning up-to-date industry techniques, which are easily transferable to a career in
the rapidly changing media sector or further education and training once your course
is completed.
Student Experience
An array of facilities is hiding behind the doors of our
corridors, with a TV studio and gallery, two radio studios,
two video editing suites, and a photography department
all on offer to give you practical media experience.
One of the summer highlights of the Film & Media
Production department is BRIT FM Online, where Film
& Media Production students produce and present a
variety of shows which are broadcast live online during
the 24/7 ten day broadcast.
You may even get the chance to call yourself an award
winner before your career begins – the department holds
its annual show (The Obies) in July at the British Film Institute
(BFI Southbank). Students from Film & Media Production
have the chance for their work to be nominated and shown
in front of an audience of 450 students, teachers, family,
friends and media industry professionals. The coveted Obie
statuettes are awarded for Best Music Video, Best Short
Film, Best Television Show, Best Television Advert, Best Film
Sequence, Best Documentary and Best Film Trailer.
What Qualities do I need?
You should have a passion for at least one area of
media, whether it be television production, filmmaking,
photography or radio. You should also be enthusiastic and
a committed team player. If you are applying to join the
Post 16 course, you will need to bring a portfolio of work
